Jolene McGowan, founder and Principal of Matchstick Communications, has over 27 years as a communications professional. Before starting Matchstick Communications, Jolene worked as the Director of Sales and Marketing for Jill McGowan, Inc., a family owned apparel design business in Portland, where she helped the company expand its reach from 4 boutiques in New England to 200 specialty stores throughout the United States.
Before that, Jolene worked for L.L. Bean, Inc. as a Public Relations representative. Jolene helped transition the public relations efforts from external services to an in-house team. Jolene assisted in managing the company's non-profit giving program and led L.L. Bean's educational grants program.
From 2013- 2017, Jolene wrote a column for Portland Press Herald's Op-Ed page called Port City Post.
Jean McGowan has over 15 years of experience as a director of development and communications in the non-profits industry. She has an uncanny instinct for stewarding donors and building successful long-term relationships. Jean is experienced in creating a successful culture of mission-based philanthropy and developing and implementing successful annual fund campaigns.
